What Colors Are Your Horse?
Thermal Imaging scans the surface temperatures of your horse and creates a color map of the minute differences it detects. These temperature differences can offer valuable insight into the physiological state of specific areas of your horse's anatomy and overall health. Increased or decreased blood flow will show as hot or cold spots, and can be indicative of problematic changes that may or may not be detectable by other diagnostic tools. Unlike other imaging techniques, thermography can reveal problems weeks before your horse begins to show clinical signs of injury. This can save you time and money, and spare your horse unnecessary suffering. Thermography can also be used to monitor healing, evaluate saddle fit, and pinpoint the source of problems that other diagnostic tools have failed to discover.
Discover the Health of Your Horse. A qualitative thermographic scan by a certified thermographer can detect health issues associated with injuries, lameness, and conditions that will affect the performance and health of your horse.
Before thermography, Veterinarians could only locate problems using traditional methods such as observation and palpation. Now, using advanced EquineIR thermography, abnormalities present stressed tissues even before damage occurs. This methodology has been developed and refined over the past twenty-five years and has been proven to be an effective imaging technique for the following:
- Pre-Purchase
- Hoof Balancing
- Saddle Fit
- Track Footing
- Pre-Race or Competition
- Joint Inflammation
- General Diagnostics
Benefits of Thermography
- Non-Invasive, passive and completely safe, with no harmful radiation
- Scans take 30-60 minutes to complete
- Imaging is done at your location or your veterinarian's location, so you don't have to transport the horse
- Enhanced reports include a scan and full veterinary interpretation by a qualified veterinarian
- Enhanced reports are reviewed through InterpertIR, a group of veterinarians specializing in Equine Thermography
- Scan your healthy horse to start a baseline
- Pre/Post competition and events
- Can be conducted anytime of the year
- Can work in concert with your vet or trainer
- Endorsed by FEI, vets, and farriers
- Most requested modality in the 1996 Olympic Games
Saddle Fit
A saddle should fit correctly and have even bearing on the horse's back. A thermal evaluation of both the horse and the saddle can show where there is friction and pressure points unevenly distributed, therefore causing discomfort to the horse, and problems for the rider. Saddles can do a lot of damage to a horse's back if not properly fitted. The pain and discomfort felt by your horse can manifest as behavioral problems and performance deficits. If you suspect that your saddle is causing a problem for your horse, or even if you've never given it much thought before, a thermal evaluation can be very useful.
